If your team wins the National Final, you will represent KPMG Switzerland at the KICC International Final from 9 - 12 April 2018 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and demonstrate your consulting expertise. At the International Final in Kuala Lumpur, you’ll meet KPMG managers and student teams from around the world and compete among the brightest minds.

This event will challenge and inspire you, testing your team’s ability to analyze and respond to realistic business scenarios. During each stage of the competition, your team will be given a detailed case study to consider – and the rest is up to you.

What you have to offer

  • You’re interested in business and have a passion for consulting
  • You have the ability to work well under pressure and to absorb a range of information quickly
  • You already have experience solving case studies and have strong presentation skills
  • You’re still enrolled in a Swiss University or University of Applied Sciences up until May 2018
  • You’re studying for a bachelor's or master's degree
  • Your degree is in business, economics, (business) law, IT, business informatics, mathematics, physics or another related discipline
  • You’re fluent in English and German or French
  • You’re able to travel to Kuala Lumpur from 8 April – 13 April 2018 (competition days are on the 9, 10, 11 and 12 April 2018)
  • You’re a team of four students (both gender must be represented)

How it works

Do you fancy joining the best and the brightest on an all-expenses-paid trip to Kuala Lumpur to take part in KICC?

KPMG is seeking the best team to support a fictitious client with a project. It is expected that many other consulting firms also want this project. How much do you want it?

Hand in your proposal and win the fictitious client over in a personal presentation at the KICC National Final in Zurich. If you get picked, expect to be on your way to an adventure of your life time!

KICC National Final

The fictitious client has come to Zurich and would like to personally meet the four final teams. You will be given a challenging case to analyze and to present. At the end of this day, the client will pick the team he wants to work with in Kuala Lumpur.

KICC International Final

09 – 12 April 2018

KICC will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from Monday, 9 April to Thursday, 12 April 2018. Challenging cases on a variety of topics will be reviewed. KPMG provides many professional services to its clients, and the cases analyzed at the International Final reflect these. Cases can vary from highly technical finance cases to broader consultative marketing cases. At the International Final, teams should be ready for anything.

What is the first step to get involved?

In order to be able to join the KICC International Final in Kuala Lumpur, you need to be among the best of the KICC National Final in Zurich. To apply for the National Final, please assemble a team of four and hand in your application documents in time.

By when do we need to submit our application documents?

Send your complete application to KICCSwitzerland@kpmg.com no later than the 6 November 2017, 10 am sharp. Applications that are late or incomplete will not be accepted. Please find more information about the application process in the factsheet “How to get involved in KICC”.

Who can apply?

We welcome the application of Bachelor students after the second semester and Master students (must be enrolled until May 2018). The background of you and your teammates should be from one of the following subjects: business, economics, law, business law, informatics, business informatics, physics, mathematics, engineering or a similar subject.

How many members must each team have to participate?

Teams can only compete in groups of four students and both gender must be represented in the team. No exceptions are made for groups with more or fewer team members.

How are teams of four assembled?

Only students can participate in KICC. All team members must still be enrolled at a University or a University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland at the time of the International Final in April 2018. KPMG employees are not entitled to take part. Team members do not need to study at the same University or University of Applied Sciences nor do they need to study in the same subject.

How does the KICC National Final work?

To qualify for the KICC National Final, you need to convince our jury of your motivation to represent KPMG Switzerland in the KICC International Final. The four qualifying teams will be announced in mid- November. The qualifying teams will be invited to the KICC National Final on 24 November 2017 in Zurich. The National Final will take the whole day starting at 9.45 am and finishing at approximately 11 pm. We expect you to be there for this whole period of time. If you are one of the four teams selected to compete in the National Final your team will be asked to work on a three-hour case study similar to the ones at the International Final and present it to a round of KPMG judges. You will be judged on your levels of insight, innovation and enthusiasm, as well as your ability to work in a team and to work well under pressure. After your presentations, you are invited to join KPMG to a networking dinner. The winning team that will go to the International Final in Kuala Lumpur will be announced that same evening. All other participating teams will receive detailed feedback on their presentations from our judges.

What types of cases are analyzed?

KPMG provides many professional services to clients, and the cases analyzed at the National and International Final reflect these. Cases can vary from a highly technical finance case to a broader consultative marketing case. What you can be sure of however, is that you will have to integrate qualitative and quantitative analysis and formulate strategic recommendations.

When will KICC take place?

KICC will take place in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, from Monday, 9 April to Thursday, 12 April 2018. Teams are expected to arrive no later than Sunday, 8 April 2018 and to depart no earlier than Friday, 13 April 2018.

What is the format of the international competition?
  • The International Final takes place over a period of 4 days:
  • Day 1: An introduction to KPMG and teambuilding activities followed by a group dinner.
  • Day 2: Teams analyze and present a case to the judging panel.
  • Day 3: Teams analyze and present a new case to a judging panel. At the end of Day 3, the finalist teams are announced.
  • Day 4: The finalist teams analyze and present a new case to the entire judging panel and all non-finalist teams. The winning team is announced at a gala dinner reception that evening.

How much does it cost to participate?

All costs for the International Final, such as the flights to Kuala Lumpur, hotel costs and main meals in Kuala Lumpur for the period between 9 April and 12 April 2018 are covered by KPMG. Expenses for drinks and food outside of the main meals need to be covered by the students themselves. Students are welcome to arrive earlier or to stay longer at their own cost.
Any costs that might incur during the National Final in Switzerland need to be covered by the students themselves or need to be discussed with KPMG prior to the National Final.

Can I participate in KICC even if I do not have a valid passport for international travel?

Yes, you can. However, if your team wins the National Final and is eligible to travel to the International Final in Kualar Lumpur, you will be responsible for having the appropriate travel documents (passport, travel insurance).
