ABB Corporate Research, in close cooperation with varied ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. In Switzerland, ABB Corporate Research, located in the proximity of Zurich, employs about 200 scientists from over 30 countries with expertise in automation and power technologies for manufacturing, consumer and process industries as well as power utilities. Within its Power Electronics department, we are investigating the reliability of wide-band-gap semiconductor devices that are currently used inside ABB’s products. Investigating the long-term reliability of these devices is the aim of the project, together with the understanding of the observed failure mechanisms. Do you have a keen interest in experimental work in an international and interdisciplinary environment? We are looking forward to your application!

  • Perform accelerated life time testing on chip and discrete level, characterize the devices before and after aging, set up new tester-manual prober (including the software for the tester)
  • Supervise the test setups and optimize program computer interfaces for specific data monitoring
  • Collect systematically the different time-to-failure and perform first steps of the root cause analysis (x-ray, SAM, cross section)

Requirements:

  • Currently pursuing a degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related subject (advanced B.Sc. or M.Sc. degree); official enrollment essential
  • Experience in experimental laboratory work
  • Programming skills (preferably Labview / Matlab)
  • Know-how in data analysis tools, and statistics advantageous
  • Experience with FE-Modeling advantageous
