As a flow chemistry postdoc you will be working in the department “Process Chemistry & Catalysis” within the unit “Small Molecules Technical Development”. Behind every product sold by Roche is the strong involvement of Pharma Global Technical Operations (PT). Starting with Phase I of the development process and continuing through to product maturity, PT makes medicines at sites around the world and includes more than 10 000 employees worldwide.

In Small Molecule Technical Development (PTDC) as part of the Global Technical Development (PTD) unit we brings a broad range of experience across drug substance (DS), drug product (DP), analytical sciences and manufacturing technology. We collaborates closely with key partners in the departments Research and Early Development (pRED / gRED), commercial manufacturing (PTC) and PTD and we are responsible for late stage technical development of our small molecules pipeline, manufacture of DS and DP for clinical studies and transfer of the processes to commercial manufacturing..

We are seeking a highly motivated postdoctoral scientist for implementation of reactions in flow mode and support of continuous manufacturing technology.

Your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop innovative solutions to translate batch reactions into continuous processes
  • Independently conduct literature search and lab experiments in order to evaluate the current state of the art methods and technologies in the field of flow chemistry
  • Being creative and innovative by conceptualizing new ideas and by translating them into hands-on laboratory work
  • Closely partner with a multidisciplinary team of synthetic, analytical and production chemists as well as engineers and process safety experts

You hold a PhD degree in synthetic chemistry with a strong focus on flow process and technologies. These competences are demonstrated by publications in scientific peer-reviewed journals. You are flexible, proactive and creative; you have extraordinary teamwork competency nonetheless being able to work independently. In addition you have:

  • Excellent knowledge of current state of the art methods and techniques in organic synthesis
  • Demonstrated problem solving skills in experimental design, data analysis and interpretation
  • Ability to take initiative, provide strategic input and use state-of-the-art flow technology
  • Ability to conceptualize, promote and deliver on innovative scientific ideas
  • Sound team-building skills to align and coordinate research with scientists from multi-disciplinary functions and senior managers
  • Ability to communicate clearly and proficiency in oral and written English. Command of German is a plus.
  • Agility for working in a dynamic, multi-site, and cross-disciplinary environment.
