ABB’s Corporate Research Group “Materials, Design and Testing” is looking for an outstanding student of the material sciences or a related subject, motivated to pursue research on additive manufacturing. During the 6 to 12 month internship, you will support our activities in 3D printing of metals, from design optimization to processing, characterization and testing. We offer a friendly and international work environment, and the possibility to gain hands-on experience in developing cutting edge solutions of the fourth industrial revolution.
Tasks:
- Develop full additive manufacturing process: from material selection, design and printing parameter optimization to characterization of physical, mechanical and thermal properties
- Study the relationship between process parameters, structural features, mechanical properties and part performance
Requirements:
- Currently pursuing a degree in materials science or a related subject (advanced BSc or MSc; official enrollment essential)
- Hands-on experience in a laboratory environment and know-how in experimental methods
- Knowledge in additive manufacturing and engineering design
- Familiarity with basics of thermal management and heat transfer is of advantage
- Able to work independently and as part of a team
- Fluent command of English
