Internship - Data processing for microwave sensing
We would like to give a highly-motivated student the opportunity to join our Integrated Sensor Systems Group and to complete a six-month internship in the area of microwave sensing. Microwave sensing is a non-invasive measurement technique allowing to infer properties of various materials. Microwave technologies are used in a myriad of industrial sensing applications. Examples are contactless level measurement, material quality inspection, and paper moisture sensing. Accurate measurement of the quantity of interest requires advanced signal processing schemes and/or machine learning techniques. During your internship, you will be developing processing schemes for the next generation ABB paper moisture sensors. Concretely, you will be looking at compensation techniques, accuracy and reliability improvement, investigating and developing new ideas. We are looking forward to your creativity to explore novel solutions.
Tasks:
- Review of state of the art: familiarization with measurement principle and standard data processing techniques in this area
- Develop and apply novel processing schemes to extract relevant information from real and synthetic data
- Document the findings (possibility of academic publication depending on achievements)
Requirements:
- Master student in Electrical Engineering, Computer Sciences or related field; official enrollment essential
- Solid understanding of signal processing methods and basic statistics
- Proficiency in one or more programming languages - e.g. Matlab, Python
- Knowledge of machine learning is welcomed
- Initiative, motivation and creativity
- Fluency in English
