ABB Corporate Research, in close collaboration with varied ABB business areas, is developing the foundations for the next generation of ABB products. Our Switchgear group is looking for a motivated student for an internship of 6 to 12 months. Breakers and switches are key components of electric energy transmission and distribution systems, especially to secure their reliable operation. The Switchgear group works together with the ABB development units towards an understanding of the complex physics of circuit breakers at the medium and low-voltage levels. We design and perform lab experiments and develop numerical simulation tools.
Tasks:
- Design and set up experimental devices and circuits for low- and medium-voltage (up to 100 kV) and high power tests
- Perform experiments under the supervision of ABB scientists
- Evaluate and interpret experimental results
- Collaborate with scientists and engineers from ABB business units and universities
Requirements:
- Enrolled student in physics, electrical or mechanical engineering or a related subject (advanced BSc or MSc course)
- Experience in laboratory work and knowhow in high-voltage experimental techniques is advantageous
- Proficiency with MATLAB and LabVIEW
- Fluency in written and spoken English
- Self-organized and team player personality
