Internship on Electrical Power Products

ABB’s Corporate Research Group “Materials, Design and Testing” is currently looking for an outstanding student, strongly motivated to work on electrical power devices in the frame of a six month internship. We conduct research and development projects on power products such as power semiconductors, capacitors or switchgear. We set strong focus on product reliability, which requires detailed understanding of the possible failure modes that could occur throughout the lifetime of our products. We study these failure modes with accelerated aging experiments. During the internship, you will support us in conducting such tests in a reliable and safe way. You will further support us in the analysis of measurement data and the development and design of new state-of-the art measurement setups and analyzing tools. We offer a friendly and international work environment, and the possibility to gain hands-on experience in an exciting field at the cutting edge of the fourth industrial revolution. Welcome to our world!

Tasks:

  • Plan and execute accelerated aging tests on power semiconductors with several stress factors (temperature, voltage,
    pressure)

  • Analyze, summarize and plot acquired data. Experience in data analysis with MATLAB or DIAdem is a plus
  • Assist in other electrical characterizations of power products or energy storage devices
  • Develop, program and maintain analysis tools
  • Assist in the development, design and manufacturing of test measurement setups

Requirements:

  • Student in electrical engineering or physics having completed at least two years of study (current enrollment is required)
  • Experience in running lab experiments
  • Preferably, you have experience in automation of lab equipment, e.g. using LabView
  • You are proactive and work autonomously
  • Fluency in German or English (spoken and written)
    Application Details:

  • Non-EU/EFTA citizens, please note that a certificate from your university, showing that an internship is a mandatory part
of studies, is required for the visa application (please submit together with the application)

  • Ideally, you can start beginning of September 2019
