Student Internship in Advanced Analytics in Clinical Pharmacology (6 months, starting as soon as possible)

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives. We are brave in both decision and action, we believe that good business means a better world.

That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

Clinical pharmacology delivers the right dose for every patient. We combine design and analysis of clinical trials with quantitative pharmacology expertise to guide selection of the best dosing regimen(s). We investigate the relationships between dose, exposure and response to understand how and why these differ between patients; develop simple ways to explain large amounts of response variability and develop practical ways to implement treatment optimisation.

In this position, you will

  • Learn how mathematical models impact drug development, specifically using ordinary differential equation models of drug exposure and response
  • Be part of a team of 3-4 modelers under the joint supervision of a clinical pharmacometrician, a translation modelling and simulation scientist and the guidance of team members
  • Investigate how cutting-edge advanced analytic approaches, such as neural networks, integrate with traditional ordinary differential equation-based approaches for pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamics modelling
  • Depending on the outcome of the work, be supported in summarizing the results in a scientific publication

Who you are

You are enrolled in a Master/PhD program with a focus on life sciences, mathematical modelling or machine learning. (We will also consider applications from exceptional students enrolled in a Bachelor program.)

Moreover, you are

  • Experienced in working with ordinary differential equations and/or advanced with analytics approaches, preferably using software such as Matlab, R or Python
  • A person with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
  • Interested in expanding your experience and being exposed to mathematical modelling
  • Preferably bringing knowledge in preclinical / clinical pharmacology with relevant biological and medical concepts
  • Preferably experienced in working in a research environment
  • Sharing pro-actively knowledge with excellent organizational skills
  • Proficient in English

To be considered, please send us your complete application merged into one PDF including

  • CV
  • Motivation Letter including desired starting date

  • A certificate of enrollment (if you are currently studying)
  • For non-EU/EFTA citizens: Certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory (required due to regulations)
