Postdoctoral Fellowship in Process Modelling (2 years, starting April 2020 or upon availability, full-time)

At Roche, we believe in the urgency of delivering medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives and we are fearless in both decision-making and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

This position is part of the small molecules Pharmaceutical R&D department. The Formulation and Process Sciences department supports Pharmaceutical R&D by developing and implementing predictive models of drug product manufacturing processes, by scouting and implementing new technologies and by providing biopharmaceutical expertise.

It is an exciting time to be part of this department: you will be part of a multidisciplinary team that is committed to improving the efficiency of drug product development on the present manufacturing equipment and is now tasked with implementing a continuous manufacturing line.

In this fellowship you will

  • Focus on predicting and improving content uniformity during drug product manufacturing processes in batch and continuous lines
  • Establish experimental methods and tools for material and manufacturing process characterization with regard to flow behaviour and segregation risk
  • Plan and execute experiments with support of technicians, to test your proposed methods and tools and to develop and validate computational models
  • Develop and validate computational models of drug product manufacturing processes for the prediction of content uniformity
  • Apply mechanistic and/or data based modelling combined with understanding of powder and bulk solid behavior
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team constituted by engineers, formulators, PAT experts, material scientists and technicians, to make the most of Roche expertise and resources and to ensure that the delivered solution fits the business needs
  • Publish your findings

You bring

  • A PhD in Chemical/Process or Mechanical Engineering (defended no more than 3 years ago)
  • Experience in planning and carrying out experimental campaigns for scientific investigation aimed at characterizing materials and understanding manufacturing processes
  • Expertise in mechanistic process modelling applied to manufacturing processes
  • Working knowledge of powders and bulk solids behavior and Process Analytical Technology
  • Experience in data based modelling and of pharmaceutical drug product development (ideally)
  • Excellent written and oral English skills (German is a plus)

You are

  • A highly motivated scientist who’s passionate about innovation
  • Displaying excellent critical thinking, self-initiative and a strong sense of accountability
  • Willing to challenge, be challenged and learn
  • A committed teammate who’s mindful of interpersonal dynamics
  • Capable of building and fostering relationships and have excellent communication skills

You are someone who wants to influence your own development. You are looking for a company where you receive the opportunity to pursue your interests across functions and geographies. Working in a multi-cultural environment motivates you. As a fast learner you actively drive the quality of the requirements.

To be considered, please send us your application until February 14th including

  • CV (including list of publications)
  • Motivation Letter (including desired start date)
