Your Role

As a member of the Swiss P&C Underwriting Management Team, and Global Pricing Leadership Team, you will report to the Chief Underwriting Officer Switzerland and provide the business insight to respective leadership teams. You will have overall responsibility for pricing for Property & Casualty in Switzerland, governance supporting the pricing process, and for the professional development of employees. You will also be required to support and sometimes lead P&C pricing initiatives in Europe and globally.

As Head Pricing Actuary your main responsibilities will involve:

  • Participate in strategy development and portfolio management as assigned and implement the pricing components of the strategy
  • Lead pricing services related to modelling technical prices, product or customer segment portfolio profitability and/or planning
  • Lead a team of 18 senior experts and actuarial projects to improve data, processes and methodologies for pricing
  • Ensure that pricing processes are appropriately governed in accordance with Group, Regional, and Local regulatory policies
  • Participate in pricing strategy and portfolio management development and implement the pricing components of the emerged strategy
  • Collaborate with and influence Market Facing and Product Underwriting on strategic portfolio and individual account pricing decisions
  • Collaborate with Reserving and Risk teams on performance monitoring, ensuring that Zurich fully leverages collective knowledge
  • Provide direction and/or strategic support for implementation of tariff revisions, tariff development, competitor benchmarking, tariff proposals and, where appropriate, tariff filings for new/renewal business
  • Develop, rationalize and implement pricing tools where appropriate and aligned with the global and regional pricing tool strategy, and with local Underwriting strategy.
  • Provide thought leadership on portfolios or global actuarial issues with a high to very high level of complexity / diversity
  • Volunteer and network with local Actuarial and/or leadership organizations to increase professional profile and Zurich’s presence
  • Provide leadership advocacy for data quality, granularity, and availability, to ensure robust inputs to pricing processes
  • Lead cross functional initiatives to improve the flow and quality of relevant data and ensure required granularity is available for analyses
  • Lead the functional area by setting individual objectives, reviewing performance/appraisals and providing on-going feedback on a formal & informal basis so that all employees are aware of what they are required to achieve and how they are performing against their objectives

Your Skills and Experience

As Head Pricing Actuary your skills and qualifications will ideally include:

  • Actuarial qualification from an internationally recognized professional body
  • Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Computer Science, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics
  • Strong leadership skills and ability to manage and develop experienced teams
  • Expert knowledge of pricing concepts and practices as applied to the insurance industry
  • At least 5 years’ experience in functional areas (pricing, reserving, capital management, etc.)
  • Excellent German and English communication skills

Additional Information

Preferred work location is Zürich Oerlikon. The travel requirement is up to 5%.
