The Associate Director most frequently collaborate with internal stakeholder based at R&D sites in New Jersey (USA), Pennsylvania (USA), Antwerp (Belgium), Leiden (The Netherlands), and Allschwil (Switzerland) and therefore may either be co-located or based remotely.

The Associate Director, Strategic Business Transformation will lead and manage transformational cross-functional initiatives that are integral to the objectives of Quantitative Sciences (QS). They will assist the QS Senior Leadership Team (SLT) to formulate strategies and manage execution to ensure successful implementation, using scientific and business principles and best-in-class processes across the R&D enterprise. This individual will be responsible for driving process, content and business impact for large, complex transformational projects, and coordinate the QS portfolio of activities, projects and programs.

Strategy Development and execution

  • In collaboration with Head, QS Strategic Business Transformation and the QS SLT, develop pragmatic, executable strategies, design implementation plans and manage execution to create value for the R&D enterprise; i.e. translate strategy into execution.

  • Act as a change agent to help drive change for the QS and broader Janssen R&D organization
  • Serve as a key liaison to functional partners in R&D

Portfolio Management

  • Participate in strategic and technical portfolio prioritization to incorporate QS strategies
  • Contribute to QS performance management through metrics and dashboards to enable decision-making

External collaboration

  • Together with QS SLT, shape strategy of QS partnerships with external consortia/stakeholders and/or commercial suppliers, and continuously evolve the business model of QS to leverage opportunities to benefit patients
  • Interface and collaborate with leaders across R&D, pharma industry, academia, consortia and commercial vendors to support the QS strategic objectives

Qualifications

Requirements

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, capable of producing frequent internal and external publications on scientific topics, and accompanying presentations to scientific audiences
  • Demonstrated contribution to future-focused, patient-centric, collaborative research via project proposals, completed projects/research proposals or academic research at graduate-level leveraging interdisciplinary perspective (e.g. medical, commercial, mathematical, operations research)
  • A Master’s degree with relevant experience is required
  • 3+ years’ experience in drug development and clinical trials in pharmaceutical industry or academia or equivalent experience driving population health outcomes; with preference given to recent experience with collaborative research opportunities and/or master protocols
  • Strong problem-solving skills coupled with ability to design, structure, and lead projects are required
  • Ability to think strategically and develop contingency plans with respect to Quantitative Sciences and J&J objectives; specific experiences and insights into building, managing and executing innovative programs to successful ends are preferred.
  • Team player with excellent interpersonal and influencing skills. Networking and relationship-building skills and ability to build a well-developed network among opinion leaders and specialists.

  • A demonstrated ability to work across functional and geographic boundaries and influence without authority is required. A demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently will be needed. Demonstrated ability to develop deep insights, uncover unmet needs, drive innovation, inspire, develop, collaborate and lead within a global matrixed team is required.
  • Highly organized and strong management skills.
  • This position will require domestic and international travel as defined to project objectives.
