The project is aimed at establishing models and functional assays to investigate RNA splicing dysfunction in neurodegeneration.

Your main accountabilities will be

  • Support developing innovative cellular models based on human pluripotent stem cell (hiPSC)-derived neurons and brain organoids
  • The application of molecular, biochemical and imaging approaches to understand disease-related molecular processes and their contribution to disease phenotypes
  • Investigating and validating novel molecular mechanisms implicated in Frontototemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD), Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and Alzheimer’s disease (AD)

Moreover, you are

  • An ambitious student who is currently enrolled in life-sciences (preferably in the area of cellular or molecular Biology, Biochemistry or Neuroscience) or in a gap year between degrees
  • Advanced in understanding of neurodegeneration principles
  • Preferably experienced in 1) mammalian cell culture, in particular with hiPSC/hESC maintenance and differentiation 2) gene expression analysis (qPCR/RNA-Seq) 3) Immunohistochemistry, Immunocytochemistry and confocal microscopy 4) Experience in brain organoid generation is a strong plus
