The Genetics and Genomics group, as part of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Roche Pharma Research and Early Development, supports discovery (targets, mode of action) and pre-clinical safety (toxicology, off-targets, mode of action) studies, and clinical biomarkers in the disease areas of Neuroscience, Rare Diseases, Immunology, Infectious diseases, Ophthalmology, and Oncology. Our expertise is focused on DNA and RNA analyses (sequencing, single cell gene expression, spatial transcriptomics, qPCR), on data processing, and on communication of results.
In this position, you will:
- be a student intern for up to 9 months (flexible)
- be part of a group of 20 scientists with expertise in Genetics and Genomics
- under the guidance of a mentor, you will optimize nuclei isolation protocols from several different animal tissues (eg. spleen, kidney, brain, skeletal muscle etc.) to establish single nuclei RNA sequencing protocols for use in discovery and toxicology projects
- have the opportunity to participate in additional drug discovery projects and gain insights in drug development
Who you are:
- A motivated student who is currently enrolled in a Masters level academic program
- Have strong molecular and cellular biology skills
- Have prior experience with next generation sequencing protocols, preferably with single cell / single nuclei RNAseq with the 10X platform
- Have intermediate bioinformatics skills, preferably with prior experience with NGS and / or single cell / nuclei sequencing data manipulation
- Be fluent in English
- Possess a high level of initiative
