The project covers the fields of mechanics, electrics, vision, automation. The main goal of this project will be to develop an automatic system to acquire images necessary for the 3D surface reconstruction of objects of small dimensions (50 mm x 8 mm x 8 mm) for visual inspection (0.1mm-size defects). This automatization aims to:

  • standardize the visualization conditions for human inspection
  • save raw data for later reviews
  • improve the detection in terms of human errors and execution time.

Once the current state-of-the-art on the topics is assessed, you will be in charge of proposing concepts to acquire all the necessary information for 3D reconstruction with multiple view techniques. You will then implement the chosen strategy.

As an intern, we count on you to achieve these following tasks:

  • search for acquisition techniques to obtain 3D + RGB result of a cylindrical object
  • selection of equipment (cameras, lighting, automation)
  • a functional set bench that automatically scans the full object to allow its 3D surface reconstruction
  • a software with HMI to visualize and virtually manipulate the object in 3D
  • a user guide
  • a handover report

Philip Morris International: Building a Smoke-Free Future

Philip Morris International (PMI) is leading a transformation in the tobacco industry to a smoke-free future and ultimately replace cigarettes to the benefit of adults who would otherwise continue to smoke, society, the company and its shareholders. PMI is a leading international tobacco company engaged in the manufacture and sale of cigarettes, smoke-free products and associated electronic devices and accessories, and other nicotine containing products in markets outside the U.S. PMI is building a future on a new category of smoke-free products that, while not risk-free, are a much better choice than continuing to smoke. Through multidisciplinary capabilities in product development, state-of-the-art facilities and scientific substantiation, PMI aims to ensure that its smoke-free products meet adult consumer preferences and rigorous regulatory requirements. PMI’s smoke-free IQOS product portfolio includes heated tobacco and nicotine-containing vapor products. As of September 30, 2018, PMI estimates that approximately 5.9 million adult smokers around the world have already stopped smoking and switched to PMI’s heated tobacco product, which is currently available for sale in 43 markets in key cities or nationwide under the IQOS brand.
