Research Associate - Institute for Translational Bioengineering (ITB)

The Research Technician will work in the Organoid Development Group within the Institute for Translational Bioengineering (ITB) whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovation/big and bold ideas focused on advancing our ability to use more predictive human model systems. The Research Technician will assist with multiple collaborative research projects that aim to engineer, understand, and manipulate human organoid systems. This is a rare opportunity to be involved in supporting the establishment and growth of a new and exciting Institute that brings together scientists and engineers from around the world.

The core tasks and responsibilities include the following

  • Independently maintain stem cell and organoid cultures, and work on projects to improve culture methods.
  • Assist with establishing culture automation workflows.
  • Flexibly assist with tissue dissociations, single-cell genomic experiments, and genetic manipulation experiments.
  • Collaborate with engineers and data scientists within the ITB to build accurate models of human physiology.
  • Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications.

Who You Are

  • B.Sc., M.S. or equivalent degree in biotechnology, molecular biology, developmental biology or related field.
  • Extensive experience with stem cell and organoid culture, immunohistochemistry and single-cell genomic experiments. Experience in automation is a plus.
  • Good understanding of stem cell and organoid biology and molecular biology is preferable, experience with plasmid and lentiviral preparations is a plus.
  • Proven experience in conducting research, including designing, executing and interpreting experiments, as demonstrated by previous publications.
  • Outstanding communication skills, strong passion and commitment to science and work well within a group.
  • Ability to prioritize, see the big picture and nevertheless focus on details
  • Ability to work independently, quickly set up effective networks and working relationships
  • Ability to work effectively with internal and external partners

The preferred start date is January 2022.
