Intern Project Management (6-12 months)

ABB Switzerland Ltd, High Voltage Products, is renowned worldwide as a specialist for power transmission and distribution. Our unit Gas Insulated Switchgears (GIS), based in Zürich-Oerlikon, is active in the development and production of gas insulated switching systems. We ensure the high reliability of our systems by using state-of-the-art development tools and methods. For our Project Management team, we are looking for an intern. As an intern you will take over project management responsibly for a GIS customer project. You will act as the contact to the customer and represent the project towards other departments. Additionally, you will take a lead in an internal project to help improve our tools and processes. The intern will get a deep insight of all aspects of project management and the operational business of a large business unit.

Tasks:

Taking over commercial and technical responsibility of one or more GIS customer project(s) (coached by an experienced project manager):

  • Plan project in terms of costs and time schedule
  • Drive engineering phase and make sure that technical issue are resolved quickly
  • Ensure that cost budget is met
  • Prepare and lead meetings with customer
  • Organize logistics and help that material arrives safe at customer premises
  • Advise field operation resources efficiently such that our substations can be energized on time

Besides execution of our customer projects we constantly improve our processes to avoid waste and become more efficient. This part of the assignment will allow the intern to execute and implement aspects of project management that are not covered by our daily operational work:

  • Participation in various cost-out projects in collaboration with other departments
  • Improvement of process documentation (workflows, process visualization, continuous improvement process according to lean six sigma principles)
  • Improvement of project management Tools

Requirements:

  • Technical background (BSc or MSc in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering)
  • Experienced and interested in working with people at the interface of technology and commercial topics
  • Knowledge of business administration is helpful
  • Languages: English (fluent); German and further languages beneficial
  • Good communication skills required
  • High commitment and ability to adapt to new situations
  • Self-driven personality who is willing to take responsibility
