Internship for Chemistry, Chemical/ Process/ Pharmaceutical Engineering or Physics Students in Solid State Science - RiSM

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives. We are courageous in both decision and action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigour, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

As part of the global technical development organization, the Particle Design group is the center of excellence for the design of drug substance particles with tailor-made solid-state properties to facilitate downstream processing to the drug product. This includes the development and optimization of the processes on laboratory scale, as well as scale-up of the corresponding manufacturing processes in close collaboration with the production sites. Our responsibilities also include the evaluation and implementation of new strategies to obtain particles with the desired properties.

As an Intern in the particle design group you will be working on one of the following project areas with a focus on processed APIs:

A. Mechanical dry-surface coating: Modification of the surface properties to improve the processability of the drug substance in the downstream processing.

B. Emulsion crystallization: Influencing the solid-state properties of APIs by crystallization from emulsions.

C. Additives to control crystal morphology: Testing the potential of additives to control the crystal morphology and evaluation of the impact of the modified morphology on downstream processing.

Who you are:

You are preferably a master student in the subject of chemistry, chemical/process/pharmaceutical engineering, physics or a related field and have an interest and experience in crystallization and solid-state characterization. Furthermore, you are interested in using and sharing your knowledge as part of your Internship in a modern working environment. Your further profile for one of the positions:

General:

  • Good knowledge of MS-Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Proficient in English, German is a plus
  • Experience working in a lab environment

For project area A: Mechanical dry-surface coating

  • Knowledge in powder processing technology (powder mixing, agglomeration, milling, etc.) as well as powder characterization techniques

For project area B: Emulsion crystallization

  • Knowledge in emulsion (crystallization) techniques

For project area C: Use of additives to control crystal morphology

  • Knowledge of crystallization techniques (cooling, evaporative, antisolvent crystallization)

Who you are:

You are preferably a master student in the subject of Pharmacy, Pharmaceutical Sciences, Pharmaceutical Technology and have an interest in technical or analytical issues. Furthermore, you are interested in using and sharing your knowledge as part your Internship in a modern working environment.
