Internship for Students in Business, Project Management or IT

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives, and we are fearless in both making decisions and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world.

That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow.

This internship in our global Pharma IT department offers you the opportunity to apply and advance your IT project management skills. It will grant you insights into the Pharma value chain as you are going to join the project team focusing on the introduction of a new computer system for “Enterprise Recipe Management” for the manufacturing of drug substances.

The role

In this role you will get hands-on experience in running a large international IT project based on Agile principles and get to know all aspects of its inner workings from planning, budgeting all the way to rolling out to end-users.

You will support the project manager and the IT system owner in the execution of the project, you don’t have to have any content related experience in Pharma Manufacturing.

The team which you will join is accountable to architect, design and implement computerized systems for end users in our Pharma Manufacturing departments around the globe. Therefore you will collaborate with IT Project Managers, IT Solution Architects, Product Owners, Business Analysts as well as IT System Solution Lifecycle experts with extensive experience in their roles.

For now, our collaboration is fully virtual with our project team being spread across Switzerland, Germany, Poland, California and Malaysia. As a consequence, some flexibility with working hours will be required.

Once we are allowed to work on site again, you are going to work with us in our modern activity-based working space at our new IT campus at the location of Kaiseraugst.

In this position you will

  • Work with the administration of the project (budget tracking, on- and off-boarding of team members, maintaining the project plan and iteration backlog, tracking of risks and issues etc.)
  • Support creation of project change requests and assessment of their impact (e.g. when timelines or scope changes), status updates of the projects and preparation of Steering Committee meetings
  • Support other project work streams (e.g. Product Management, Rollout, Computerized System Validation etc.) as per your skills and personal interests
  • Preparation and facilitation of project meetings, workshops and events

Who you are

You are an ambitious and curious student who is currently enrolled in IT, project management, business or related fields or in a gap year between degrees.
You enjoy project management and have a flair for IT. As part of your studies, school education or any other work experience you can demonstrate a track record of having worked well with others in a team environment. Ideally you already have previous project experience (e.g. during your studies) and experience in agile ways of working (e.g. Scrum). Short work experience, internships and studies abroad are an asset.

Moreover, you are

  • passionate about delivering value to others in the form of projects and have heard of waterfall, hybrid and agile before.
  • happy to work on detail-oriented tasks (such as project budgets) but also to support high-level strategic topics (such as a project vision etc.); good visualization skills are an advantage
  • highly proficient in working virtually (video-enabled calls / online and offline collaboration)
  • familiar with virtual collaboration tools (preferably with the Google suite; project management tools (such as Smartsheet or MS Project)
  • easily approachable for others to support your personal development. You are self-aware, interested in concepts like “Growth Mindset” and structured feedback to improve your skills.
  • fluent in English verbally and in writing; other languages, specifically German and Polish are a plus
  • available from March 2021 until February 2022

To be considered, please send us your complete application merged into one PDF including:

  • CV
  • Motivation Letter
  • A certificate of enrollment (if you are currently studying)
  • For non-EU/non-EFTA citizens: Certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory (required due to regulations)
