The Postdoctoral Fellow in Organoid Engineering will work at the Institute for Translational Bioengineering (ITB), a newly formed scientific group in pRED whose goal is to disrupt the traditional drug discovery process through innovation/big and bold ideas focused on improving our ability to use predictive human model systems. He/she will play a key role in ITB’s efforts to develop and apply next generation human organoids and organs-on-a-chip.

Your responsibilities are

  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to drive projects aimed at replicating the multi-compartmental and architectural aspects of healthy and diseased tissues
  • Invent and apply cutting-edge bioengineering approaches to enhance the pathophysiological relevance of organoid models, facilitating breakthroughs in understanding and treating complex, multifactorial diseases.
  • Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific meetings

Who you are

You are a scientist with a PhD in the field of bioengineering with profound understanding of cell and developmental biology. You are intellectually brave and adept at applying your skills to new fields to generative innovative and transformative insights. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.

The position would require advanced expertise in

  • State-of-the-art approaches in cellular and multicellular engineering (e.g., tissue microfabrication, biomicrofluidics, bioprinting, photopatterning)
  • Cleanroom microfabrication techniques (e.g., photolithography, etching, photoresists) and multilayer soft lithography
  • Multi-color microscopy
  • Computational approaches and quantitative image-based analysis
  • Stem cell-derived organoids
  • Processing primary tissue samples to isolate epithelial and stromal cell types

The following experiences would be considered an asset

  • Immunology and immunooncology
