The Position

The Position

You will be part of a dynamic and multinational team of scientists, doctoral students and research associates working on novel cancer immunotherapy molecules. Your main focus will be the planning, execution and reporting of in vitro biological assays to characterize the activity of new molecules.

Your main accountabilities will be:

  • Work with human/murine tumor cell lines as well as primary cells
  • Isolate various cell subsets from human blood
  • Design, execute, analyze and record experimental work under supervision of scientist
  • Establish and perform in vitro characterization of the activity of novel immunotherapies (e.g. binding assay, tumor cell lysis, immune cell activation, proliferation, cytokine secretion)
  • Perform functional cell-based assays using luminescence, flow cytometry and imaging-based readouts
  • Present results of experiments at internal meetings

Who you are

We are looking for an enthusiastic and proactive Bachelor or Master student or recent graduate (graduated within 12 months before the start of the internship) within Life Sciences, Biology, Immunology or a related field.

You are passionate about cancer immunology, eager to deepen your theoretical knowledge and gain valuable wet lab experience in a wide range of techniques and assay types. You are curious about the R&D drug discovery process and show a strong desire to participate in the characterization of novel cancer immunotherapies. You are open-minded, like to take on new challenges and strive in a matrix environment.

Further qualifications:

  • Enrolled at university or recently graduated (graduated within 12 months before the start of the internship)
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture, PBMC isolation and flow cytometry
  • Basic knowledge of data analysis and visualization softwares (e.g. FlowJo, GraphPad Prism, Spotfire)
  • A good understanding of Cellular Biology and Immunology
  • Know-how to maintain the BSL2 laboratory/workstation in accordance with current technical, safety and regulatory standards
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, a strong team player
  • Ability to work effectively and independently within a diverse group of people
  • Written and verbal proficiency in English is required

Due to regulations, non-EU/non-EFTA citizens without either a B permit with work permit or a C permit need to provide a certificate from the university stating that an internship is mandatory and stating its length.​

The internship will take place in Schlieren (next to Zurich).

The preferred start date of the internship is March 2023 or upon availability. Please clearly indicate your preferred starting date and duration of the internship (6 to ideally 9 months) on your motivation letter. This internship is not suitable for a Master’s thesis.
