Roche Postdoctoral Fellow (RPF) in immunocompetent organotypic models (as of April 2021, 2 years)

At Roche, we believe it’s urgent to deliver medical solutions right now - even as we develop innovations for the future. We are passionate about transforming patients’ lives and we are fearless in both making decisions and taking action. And we believe that good business means a better world. That is why we come to work each day. We commit ourselves to scientific rigor, unassailable ethics, and access to medical innovations for all. We do this today to build a better tomorrow. We are proud of who we are, what we do, and how we do it. We are many, working as one across functions, across companies, and across the world.

The department of Investigative Safety at the Roche Innovation Center Basel focuses on creating and applying advanced human cellular models to support preclinical drug safety assessment and the elucidation of drug toxicity mechanisms.

You responsibilities are

  • Independently drive a project to create next-generation immune-competent models of mucosal tissues, with a focus on the intestine, by combining primary human samples, organoids and Organs-on-Chips to recreate the cellular environment of real organs.
  • Collaborate with our multidisciplinary teams to improve the capacity of cell-based systems to 1) predict cancer immunotherapy-induced adverse events in patients, 2) understand the underlying molecular and cellular mechanisms, 3) identify strategies to evade them, and 4) elucidate the factors that govern variability in patient response.
  • Generate high-quality results for peer-reviewed publications and present at scientific meetings

Who You Are

You are a scientist with a PhD in the field of immunology or immuno-oncology with profound understanding of mucosal immunology. Furthermore, you have great interpersonal and communication skills. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies. The position would require advanced expertise in:

  • Multi-color microscopy and immune phenotyping by flow cytometry (>12 markers)
  • Basic immunological assays
  • Isolation of peripheral and tissue-resident immune cells
  • Primary cell cultures and basic molecular and cell biology techniques

The following experiences would be considered an asset

  • 3D culture (e.g. organoids, spheroids)
  • Isolation of epithelial cells from human tissues including cell sorting
  • Generation, analysis and interpretation of scRNAseq data
  • Cancer immunotherapy

The preferred start date is April 1, 2021.

To be considered your application needs to:

  • A cover letter, a CV (including a list of relevant publications) and the names of three references

Are you ready to apply? We are looking for someone who thinks beyond the job offered - someone who knows that this position can be a rare springboard to many other opportunities at Roche.
