As a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Cancer Immunotherapy Department of Pharmaceutical Research and Early Development (pRED), you will conduct exploratory research projects with the aim to develop novel cell therapies for the treatment of cancer.

In this position you will:

  • Conduct all steps needed to genetically engineer immune cells and characterize the resulting cell products in different assays
  • You will be responsible to address all topics and perform all tasks that are necessary to successfully achieve the objectives of the RPF project
  • You will execute the RPF project proactively with internal and external partners
  • You will identify, develop and implement new technologies and assays
  • You will generate results for high quality publications in peer reviewed journals
  • Furthermore, you ensure that stay on top of current development in the field by attending (and presenting at) scientific meetings and interacting with the academic community

The RPF Programme has the ambition to build and maintain the Scientific Leadership of the future and to provide leading Roche scientists with the opportunity to collaborate with talented postdoctoral researchers, and leading academic research groups, from around the world. One of the key aims is to advance basic science and technologies that will be published in top-rated, peer-reviewed scientific journals, if necessary preceded by priority patent applications.

The duration of RPF project is initially set for two years, with the possibility of extension for a third year. You will be based at the Roche Innovation Center Zurich.

Who you are/have:

  • You hold a PhD or MD PhD degree in cancer biology, immunology, synthetic biology or related fields
  • Deep understanding of immune cell engineering and/or cancer immunology
  • You have hands on experience with functional assay development and optimization
  • Proficiency with primary immune cell characterization techniques, hands-on experience in multi-colour flow cytometry
  • Experience with gene editing technologies would be highly desirable
  • Experience with in vivo experiments is a plus
  • You are highly motivated and flexible to work on challenging frontline projects
  • You are an excellent team player with the ability to work independently with exceptional planning, organizational skills
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

You have very good interpersonal and communication skills, are able to build good working relationships, and are an outstanding teammate. Your experience and investigative attitude allow you to work independently, to design, perform, and interpret experiments, and to embark on new scientific methodologies.
