Your role

Are you ambitious? Do you have strong analytical skills?

  • researching market trends
  • formulating investment theses for M&A opportunities
  • working on live transactions; and preparing crisp, Board-ready materials

Throughout your 3-6 month tenure with UBS you will receive substantial exposure to senior decision makers within the firm and will have the opportunity for group and 1-on-1 mentoring.

Your team

As part of UBS Group Corporate Development, Group M&A sits at the heart of strategic decision making of UBS, a leading global financial institution headquartered with a presence in 50 countries worldwide. UBS’s business comprises the No.1 wealth management franchise globally; strong and differentiated asset management and investment banking franchises; and the market leading Swiss Personal & Corporate business. We are also a global leader in sustainable investing. Altogether in 2019 UBS generated adjusted pre-tax income of US$6 billion.

Working closely with UBS’s other divisions, Group M&A acts as the principal advisor to the senior management and the Board of Directors of UBS Group. We are responsible for screening, analyzing and executing end-to-end on inorganic opportunities including M&A, JVs etc. Select recent transactions include the acquisition of Nordea’s Luxembourg-based wealth management business; JVs with Sumitomo Mitsui Trust and Banco do Brasil; and the sale of a majority stake in Fondcenter to Deutsche Boerse. Senior members of Group Corporate Development all come from a variety of top-tier investment banking, consulting and industry backgrounds.

Your expertise

We are looking for ambitious, entrepreneurial and financially literate individuals who are currently in their Master studies (or at the end of the Bachelor studies), preferably in finance, business administration or economics.

In particular, we are looking for the following skill-set:

  • intellectual curiosity and motivation to go the extra mile: if you don’t know it, you will learn it
  • familiarity with financial analysis and valuation techniques (bonus points for knowing how to model Financial Institutions businesses)
  • strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • flexible, open-minded and cooperative personality, combined with cultural awareness
  • strong communication and language skills: a fluency in English is mandatory; other languages (in particular German) are a strong a plus
  • advanced Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • previous experience in Corporate Finance
